Chandraprasad Saikia doesn't need an introduction in the Assamese literature world. He is considered to be one of the most powerful author in Assam. "Maharathi" is one of his finest works. The word Maharathi means the greatest warrior.

The story of the novel based upon epic of Indian mythology Mahabharata. The protagonist is "Maharathi Karna". Karna is one of the central characters and was the greatest warrior in the Mahabharata. He was the son of Surya (Sun) and known for his generosity, honesty apart from the greatest warrior. His life was full of tragedy and Mr. Saikia covers all emotions in a touching way.

Mr Saikia was awarded with prestigious Sahitya Akademi for this novel "Maharathi" in 1995. The novel has been used in many theater acts and screen plays in Assam.
